Community & Maintainers

Pleno is an ambitious, modern programming language project, but it is also intentionally minimalistic in how it is built and maintained.

The first thing I want to say is

Yes, I am escaping from taking risks and responsibility, spending money and my precious time.

I am looking for curious, skilled, and thoughtful people who want to help build something meaningful in the open-source world — not just another tool, but a language with long-term vision.

If you are interested in:

  • Programming language design
  • Virtual machines, compilers, or runtimes
  • Tooling (LSP, debugger, formatter)
  • Documentation and learning materials
  • Or simply helping an open-source ecosystem grow

You are very welcome here.

Philosophy

Pleno is built with a very clear philosophy:

Focus on the language itself.
Not on surrounding bureaucracy.

I deliberately avoid building and maintaining things that create:

  • financial overhead
  • infrastructure burden
  • long-term operational cost
  • or large time sinks unrelated to language design

This is why Pleno does not have:

  • A central package registry
  • Winget, Scoop, Brew, Apt, or similar installers
  • Complex cloud infrastructure
  • Paid hosting requirements

All of those systems require constant money, time, legal, and operational effort — and they distract from the actual goal:

Making Pleno a great programming language.

Why this approach

Most language projects fail not because of bad design, but because of:

  • infrastructure burnout
  • funding pressure
  • maintenance overload

Pleno is designed to survive without money.

By keeping everything simple, Git-based, and decentralized:

  • Anyone can contribute
  • Anyone can host
  • Anyone can fork
  • Nobody is blocked by payments or servers

This keeps Pleno free, open, and sustainable.

VS Code Extension (Status)

You can download Pleno Language Support extension and install it manually. But later I will publish it officially.

Yes, Pleno has a VS Code extension, but I want to be clear about the current direction:

  • I do not plan to officially publish the VS Code extension marketplace release right now.
  • I want to avoid extra overhead like release cycles, marketplace maintenance, support requests, and constant compatibility work while the language itself is still evolving.

For now, the priority is simple:

Make Pleno stable and solid first.

That said, this is not a “never”.

If Pleno reaches a stable stage, I may return to tooling and distribution step by step, such as:

  • publishing the VS Code extension officially
  • improving editor support
  • adding better installation options
  • and other ecosystem pieces

But only after the core language is strong enough to justify that effort.

Sponsorship & Support

While Pleno is designed to run without cost, support is always appreciated.

If you are:

  • a sponsor
  • a developer
  • a maintainer
  • a teacher
  • or just someone who believes in this idea

You are welcome to help in any way you can.

This can be:

  • contributing code
  • improving documentation
  • testing
  • building tools
  • or providing financial support

There is no obligation — only shared curiosity and respect for good engineering.

Join the journey

Pleno is not a product.
It is a craft.

If you enjoy building things that are:

  • elegant
  • deep
  • long-lasting
  • and truly useful

Then you are already part of the kind of community this project wants.

Welcome.
